چکیده
This study investigates the settling behaviour of bidisperse colloidal silica suspensions in two different size ratios (100:500 nm and 500:800 nm) with various mixture volume fractions, using an analytical photocentrifuge. For dilute systems, translation rate profiles to distributions resulted more accurate measurements for both monodisperse systems than dynamic light scattering, comparison SEM. However, a critical limitation was also observed, as distinction between upper (smaller particle) lower (larger interfaces could only be measured total fractions <∼0.02. mixtures, results were compared Richardson-Zaki modified Batchelor model predictions. The proved at predicting interface rate, while models over predicted interface, likely due increased drag that most evident higher smaller particles. 100:500 cases, centrifugal rotation speeds required settle 100 particles, influence Brownian motion evident. It found particles obtained initial its terminal velocity, induced anisotropic effects or backflow from 500 fraction, which again greater proportion

Separation of Hela Cells by Colloidal Silica Density Gradient Centrifugation
Using a colloidal silica density gradient, HeLa cells in mitosis were found to have a density of 1.040-1.046 g/cc, lighter than the remaining interphase cells. The mitotic cells could be harvested and cultured after centrifugation, showing growth synchrony by measurement of a peak in mitotic index 21 hr after establishing the culture. By using Colcemid or vinblastine sulfate, HeLa cells were ar...

The Effect of Colloidal Forces on the Sedimentation and Reslurrying Characteristics of Silica Slurries
Preliminary work has been completed to investigate the effect of particle-particle interaction forces on the flow properties of silica slurries. Classically Hydrotransport studies have focused on the flow of coarse granular material in Newtonian fluids. However, with current economical and environmental pressures, the need to increase solid loadings in pipe flow has lead to studies that examine...
متن کاملCentrifugation-assisted Assembly of Colloidal Silica into Crack-Free and Transferrable Films with Tunable Crystalline Structures
Self-assembly of colloidal particles into colloidal films has many actual and potential applications. While various strategies have been developed to direct the assembly of colloidal particles, fabrication of crack-free and transferrable colloidal film with controllable crystal structures still remains a major challenge. Here we show a centrifugation-assisted assembly of colloidal silica sphere...
متن کاملAnalytical ultracentrifugation: sedimentation velocity and sedimentation equilibrium.
Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) is a versatile and powerful method for the quantitative analysis of macromolecules in solution. AUC has broad applications for the study of biomacromolecules in a wide range of solvents and over a wide range of solute concentrations. Three optical systems are available for the analytical ultracentrifuge (absorbance, interference, and fluorescence) that permi...
